The Divine Influx - the sculpture through which the Cross Spring passes - was designed by artist William Pye, a water sculptor of international renown. According to the Financial Times, William Pye “has proved himself not just to be an artist of quality but also of true originality and lasting technical influence”.
The sculpture is in memory of Antonietta Delsignore-Sausman, who lived locally and loved the quiet, contemplative environment of the Cross Bath. The inscription by Ted Hughes reads, 'Water is the ultimate life, pure as crystal, the divine influx'.
