The Cross Bath

The Cross Bath is an intimate, open-air, thermal bath, which stands alone from the other spa buildings. Here you can bathe in a unique environment that restores this Grade 1 Listed building to its historic purpose. Where the Cross Bath now stands, the Celts revered their goddess Sul, in whose honour the Romans named their new spa Aquae Sulis. Acknowledging this age-old reverence for the natural thermal waters, the Cross Spring is designated as a sacred site.

The oval pool in the Cross Bath draws on water from a thermal spring rising through the limestone rock below. All year round, you can watch the spring waters as they rise and fall freely from a specially commissioned pool-side fountain. After dark, the subtle lighting scheme picks out the building's fine architectural details.

The simple changing area has been designed to accommodate up to 12 people and includes lockers, showers and toilet facilities.
