Joan Sandbrook

Joan Sandbrook was born in 1920 in Liverpool but came to Bath during the war and worked as a physiotherapist. After her children were born she went back to work as a physiotherapist at the Spa from 1959 to 1977.

Veronica Macmillan

Veronica Macmillan was born in 1925 in Bath and taught at Bath Royal High School. She used to go swimming in the baths and had treatment for her posture. Her mother also received treatment for rheumatism at the spa.

Gertrude Smith

Gertrude Smith was born in 1916 and lived all her life in the same house in Bath. She started working at the spa treatment centre in 1935 as a trainee nurse, earning 15 shillings a week and eventually completed 40 years’ service at the spa.
