Thermae Bath Spa is Open!

At the opening ceremony, Thermae’s Managing Director, Henk Verschuur said:

“This is the day we have all been waiting for. It has undoubtedly been a long journey and the last few years have had their fair share of problems and frustrations.

As the operator of the Spa, these problems have been outside of our control and it has caused us a lot of grief as well as costing us a lot of money. However, the past is the past and we are now looking to the future.

For the last 28 years, something very important has been missing from Bath – a working Spa and the ability to bathe in the natural thermal waters. This will now change for the better and our staff are keen to share this wonderful resource with you.

I am very proud of my staff and together, we are determined that the Spa will be a success and will bring benefits to the community of Bath & North East Somerset.

On that positive note, let’s open the doors and let’s make that success happen.”

Since the advance reservations phone lines opened on July 19, more that 3,000 bookings have been made. Of those bookings, approximately 35% have originated from Bath and the surrounding area, whilst 65% have come from other parts of the UK and overseas. The split between female and male is 75% : 25%.

Thermae Bath Spa is working closely with the international, award-winning company, Pevonia Botanica, whose range of spa, health and beauty products will be used in the new Spa.

In the heart of the city of Bath, Thermae is a day Spa comprising new and historic buildings. It offers bathing in the natural thermal waters and a range of facilities designed to refresh the body and sooth the mind in a relaxed yet inspirational setting.

Thermae incorporates the New Royal Bath, the Hot and Cross Baths and the Spa Visitor Centre – a free-to-enter spa interpretation centre.

The project was funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council, the Millennium Commission, Thermae Development Company Ltd (UK), the Bath Spa Trust, the EU Regional Development Fund and local subscribers.
