What's On in Bath this Month?
04 June 2018
We hesitate to say it, knowing the unpredictable nature of British weather as we do - but it is definitely getting warmer.
All around Bath, cafés are daring to put out their garden seating, office radiators are being turned off and the parks are filling up at lunchtime once again. Making the most of the warmer weather, the Roman Baths is set to extend its opening hours so that visitors can enjoy the ruins by twilight.
This month there are plenty of summery activities happening, so drink up all that happy sunshine with the following events:
PUB IN THE PARK - 8th-10th June
Pub in the Park is a three day culinary feast taking place in Royal Victoria Park from 8th - 10th June. You can sample foodie delights from the likes of Tom Kerridge, Candice Brown, Ping Coombes, and enjoy live music and great shopping to boot. Headline musicians include Mel C, Razorlight and The Rifles. Tickets are available here: https://www.pubintheparkuk.com/bath/
FRINGE FESTIVAL - Until 10th June
The Bath Fringe Festival runs until Sunday June 10, and features a mind-boggling variety of events and shows - from a Brazilian musical to a Brexit-themed play. The Bath Fringe is described as: “a festival of all the arts, with few rules as to what should be in or out – it’s what people want to do, and what venues in Bath want to put on”. https://www.bathfringe.co.uk.
TORCHLIT SUMMER EVENINGS AT THE ROMAN BATHS - 16th June - 31st August
If you haven’t yet visited the Roman Baths, make your first trip by torchlight; you’ll remember it forever. From the 16th June the site is open until 10.00pm every evening (last entry 9.00pm). If you think these vast imperious ruins are impressive during the day, wait until darkness falls. Torchlight glimmers off the steaming waters as you walk on ancient Roman pavements, drinking in the size, history and complexity of this incredible spa complex. The atmosphere is magical, whatever your age. https://www.romanbaths.co.uk/events/torchlit-summer-evenings
MINERVA’S OWLS - 25th June - 10th September
Minerva’s Owls of Bath 2018 is a major public art sculpture trail, designed to celebrate Bath’s Roman heritage by honouring Minerva’s animal symbol, the owl of wisdom. Over 100 beautiful individually decorated, super-sized owl sculptures are currently roosting around the World Heritage city of Bath and surrounding region. How many can you spot during your visit to Bath?
THE HOLBURNE MUSEUM
A short stroll over the bridge and down Great Pulteney Street sits the Holburne, where many of Thomas Gainsborough’s artworks reside. This month’s exhibitions, musical performances, lectures and talks have something for everyone. Prized Possessions Dutch Masterpieces from National Trust Houses runs until mid-September. It features Dutch seventeenth-century paintings by some of the finest masters of the ‘Golden Age’ from National Trust collections around the country, and explores what made Dutch art so sought-after among country house owners.
WHAT’S ON AT THE THEATRE?
You can’t come to Bath and not spend an evening at the wonderful Theatre Royal. Here are our top pick performances for the month:
GREAT EXPECTATIONS - 4th-9th June

IOLANTHE – 12th-16th June

DUSTY - 23rd June to 7th July
Fiercely funny and emotionally charged, DUSTY features many of the singer’s blazingly soulful pop hits, including I Only Want to Be with You, Son of a Preacher Man and You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me.
