Thermae Bath Spa promotes Walking for Wellness
Walking, wellness and thermal water bathing all go hand in hand.
The health benefits of walking range including weight loss, lowering the risk of chronic diseases and lifting the mood. As a simple, effective and accessible activity, it is one of the most commonly recommended exercises by doctors.
Bathing in natural thermal waters is also thought to aid wellness. It can replenish the skin with much needed minerals such as magnesium and calcium, and the heat of the naturally warm water aids joint pain and soothes sore muscles.
Owing to this natural shared affiliation with wellness, Thermae Bath Spa is supporting Bathscape’s first ever walking festival this September, featuring 24 beautiful and varied walks. The festival promises landscapes, heritage and views to impress even the most seasoned walkers, and provides a great opportunity for people to get outside and enjoy the many health benefits of walking.
About the Walking Festival
There is a range of walks, from a short easy stroll around Bath City Farm to the more challenging 20 mile Julian House Circuit of Bath Walk, and lots in between. You can explore Somer Valley, discover the wildlife in Smallcombe Cemetery and Carr’s Wood, or take a longer walk to Little Solsbury Hill.
Lucy Bartlett, Community & Access Officer at Bathscape says: “Whether you want to walk longer distances enjoying stunning views across the city, explore the nature in your local area or just meet people and get some fresh air, there’s a walk for you. All the walks are free and are led by fantastic walk leaders supported by friendly volunteers. The only exception is The Circuit of Bath Walk on Sunday 24th September that is the Julian House annual sponsored walk. This year is the 30th year that the charity has been supporting homeless and excluded men and women in Bath, so what better time to enjoy Bath’s beautiful surrounding countryside and make a difference to people’s lives. Why Thermae Bath Spa and Wessex Water are sponsoring the Walking Festival
As the country’s only day spa with access to Bath’s naturally warm mineral rich waters, wellness is truly at the heart of Thermae Bath Spa. Local residents and visitors to Bath all come to experience the famous therapeutic waters, just as the Celts and Romans did over 2000 years ago. Owing to this association with wellness, Bathscape Walking Festival feels like a natural fit for us as a thermal spa, so we were delighted to get involved. Bathscape have planned some fascinating walks incorporating and celebrating the local heritage, which will prove beneficial for both body and mind for local residents and visitors from further afield.
Walkers may wish to reward their efforts with a relaxing dip in Bath’s natural thermal waters. With beautiful views over Bath’s skyline from the rooftop pool, and access to the new state-of-the-art Wellness Suite, it’s the perfect way to cap off a walk. Entry to Thermae Bath Spa starts at £35, or £26 for Discovery Card holders.
